The House of Representatives has unanimously passed a special resolution concerning the Rasuwa floods.
At Wednesday’s meeting of the House, Speaker DP Aryal presented the special resolution, which was unanimously endorsed by the lawmakers.
A devastating flood struck the Bhotekoshi and Trishuli rivers on August 26. The disaster affected Timure, Syafrubesi and Betrabati in Rasuwa, Trishuli Bazaar and Devighat in Nuwakot, as well as settlements along the Trishuli River in Dhading, Chitwan and Gorkha districts.
A total of 1,114 bodies of people who had gone missing in the floods have been recovered.
According to the National Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Authority, the recovered bodies include 41 from Rasuwa, 155 from Nuwakot, 59 from Dhading, 348 from Chitwan, 66 from Gorkha, 38 from Tanahun, 217 from Nawalparasi East and 190 from Nawalparasi West.
A total of 3,916 people remain missing, while 292 have been injured. So far, 11,993 people have been rescued from flood-affected areas.
Prime Minister Balen also briefed the House on the situation on Wednesday. He said there was no time to take a break simply because one’s body was tired and that, even amid grief, there was no time to share it. He also informed the House about the measures taken by the government.
Political party leaders then addressed the House. Following their remarks, Speaker Aryal presented the special resolution, which was unanimously passed.
The National Assembly had also passed a special resolution on the Rasuwa floods on Tuesday.
The upper house also recommended that the government take various measures, including prioritising rescue, relief, rehabilitation and the search for missing people; providing free medical treatment to the injured; and scientifically managing the recovered bodies.
It also called for coordination among the three tiers of government during reconstruction, cooperation with local communities, civil society, the private sector, development partners and the international community, and the preservation of national unity in disaster management.
