Kathmandu, June 4

The Parliament meeting called for 11 am on Sunday has been postponed till 3 pm today after the main opposition CPN-UML warned that it would obstruct the meeting.

The meeting was scheduled to elect the new prime minister. Nepali Congress President Sher Bahadur Deuba is contesting solo for the post.

Meanwhile, top leaders of major political parties are holding a meeting before the House meeting in a bid to end the stalemate.

The main opposition has been obstructing the Parliament for last last few days demanding the halted vote counting in Bharatpur Metropolitan City in Chitwan district.

The Election Commission’s decision to redo the voting in ward 19 of the city has further angered the opposition and it has warned of strengthening its protests.

The party has been arguing that the PM’s  election cannot take place when there is obstruction in the House proceedings.
