Kathmandu, September 8

The government is preparing to honour citizens who volunteer to reject social security allowances from the state despite being eligible.

It has been some time that the social security law of the country has a provision for such felicitations but that has not been implemented yet. But, recently, the Department of National Id and Civil Registration has requested local governments to implement this.

With the honour, the citizens giving up social security allowances including senior citizen allowance, disability allowance and widow allowance will also be provided with certificates.

The department has also told the local units to publicise this provision widely and inform the department of the details of such people.

Meanwhile, the government has implemented new payment scales for all social security allowances to be effective from this Shrawan (mid-July-mid-August) as announced in the budget plan for this year.

Of late, the burden of social security allowances is increasing on the government.
