Home Ministry to step up market monitoring, border surveillance

A meeting chaired by Home Minister Ram Bahadur Thapa at the ministry, on Friday, March 6, 2020.

Kathmandu, March 6

Amid fears that traders might indulge in black marketing in the wake of fears that the coronavirus outbreak would obstruct supply systems, the government has decided to step up market monitoring. Likewise, it is also planning to make border surveillance more effective so that any infected person could not enter the land.

A meeting of the concerned officials held at the ministry on Friday made the decisions. The meeting chaired by Home Minister Ram Bahadur Thapa observed that the traders were preparing to hike the price of daily consumables and hoard the things unnecessarily to create an artificial shortage. But, the ministry would facilitate the smooth supply of the consumables, the officials said.

The ministry has also decided to coordinate with a high-level coronavirus counter panel led by Deputy Prime Minister Ishwar Pokharel to work in this regard, according to minister Thapa’s press coordinator Kiran Bhattarai.

Officials of Nepal Police, Nepal Army, and Armed Police Force were also present in the meeting.
