Kathmandu, March 11
Naresh Thapa, a younger brother of Home Minister Ram Bahadur Thapa, has surrendered to prison officials around one week ago, an official revealed on Tuesday.
Earlier, in September last year, police had arrested Thapa on an extortion charge. Later, the Kathmandu District Court had released him on bail. Later, the Patan High Court dismissed the district court’s order and told the police to keep him in judicial custody, but Thapa was already on the run then. Police also did not launch any manhunt.
After his surrender last week, Thapa has been kept in the judicial custody at Dillibajaar Jail, according to the source.
Thapa was arrested last year because he was in constant contact with Samir Man Basnyat, who has been alleged of being the mastermind behind the 2017 murder of Sharad Gauchan, former chairman of the Federation of Construction Contractors.
