Health Minister Birodh Khatiwada has barred the Karnali Academy of Health Sciences (KAHS) Vice-Chancellor Dr Mangal Rawal from carrying out his duties so as to replace him with Dr Nimesh Thapa apparently because Dr Thapa is loyal to his CPN-Unified Socialist party.

Dr Rawal was appointed to the position by the erstwhile KP Sharma Oli-led government. Khatiwada’s CPN-Unified Socialist party was formed after the Madhav Kumar Nepal-led faction split from Oli-led CPN-UML.

That is why Dr Rawal fell prey to Health Minister Khatiwada’s political bias, according to sources privy to developments. Otherwise, Dr Rawal was known to have performed well at the academy.

But, the health ministry handed over a letter to Dr Thapa recently, asking him to work as the acting vice-chancellor.

Meanwhile, officials of the academy have submitted a memorandum to the health minister via the Jumla District Administration Office, urging him to withdraw the decision.
