Grenade explosion in Panchthar claims lives of 2 young siblings

Biratnagar, August 30

A tragic grenade explosion in Panchthar’s Falelung Rural Municipality-5 has led to the deaths of two young children from the same family.

The explosion occurred on Thursday afternoon at around 3:30 pm at the home of Aitaraj Kerung, where Dilip Sawa’s family was residing. The blast claimed the lives of two-year-old Prinsa Sawa and her 11-year-old brother Dipson Sawa. Prinsa died while being transported to the hospital, and Dipson succumbed to his injuries in Ilam.

Four of Dilip Sawa’s children were injured in the explosion. While Prinsa and Dipson tragically passed away, their nine-year-old brother Pawan and another child are reported to be in stable condition.

According to DSP Hemanta Bhandari Chhetri of Panchthar, preliminary investigations suggest that the explosion was caused by a hand grenade. Authorities discovered another suspicious object resembling a bomb near the explosion site. The object, which is rusted, is also suspected to be an explosive device.

A bomb disposal team from the Nepal Army is currently on its way to the site, which is being secured by the Nepal Police. Chief District Officer Bishnu Prasad Koirala stated that further details about the explosion and the suspicious object will be disclosed once the army team completes its investigation.
