Govt tabling Medical Education Bill in National Assembly on Monday

File: A National Assembly meeting

Kathmandu, January 27

The government is preparing to take the National Medical Education Bill in the National Assembly, seeking its endorsement, on Monday morning.

The House of Representatives had endorsed the controversial bill on Friday despite a strong protest of the main opposition, Nepali Congress.

Secretary Rajendra Phuyal will table the bill during the Upper House meeting tomorrow, according to the agenda for the meeting published today.

Protesting the ‘forceful’ endorsement of the bill from the Lower House, the main opposition party has announced to launch a nationwide protest. Its sister organisation, Nepal Students Union, has already come to the streets.

On the other hand, medical education reform activist Dr Govinda KC has also continued his fast-unto-death demanding corrections in the bill.

Various other bills are also being discussed during the meeting scheduled for 11 am tomorrow.
