Govt scraps all inter-district transportation passes

Many vehicles are seen plying a Kathmandu road during the lockdown also, in April 2020.

Kathmandu, May 12

The government has decided to invalidate all the passes the district administration offices have issued letting people move from one district to another amidst the lockdown.

The Ministry of Home Affairs made the decision to tighten the movement restrictions as the number of coronavirus infection cases soared in the country, according to the ministry’s information officer Uma Kanta Adhikari.

Earlier, during the cabinet meeting held this afternoon, Prime Minister KP Sharma Oli had reportedly expressed his dissatisfaction over the weak implementation of the restrictive orders, stressing maintaining restrictions was a must to control the outbreak further.

Meanwhile, the government has made it mandatory for all the government staff to obtain passes for their movement. With most of the government offices staying open since Sunday, the staff have been using their vehicles by showing their identity cards.

Journalists will continue to be allowed to travel using their press passes issued by the Department of Information and Broadcasting.
