Govt opens call centre to listen to complaints of migrant workers abroad

Kathmandu, April 1

In its attempt to address complaints of Nepali migrant workers based in various countries, the government on Monday established a call centre in Kathmandu.

The centre under the Ministry of Labour, Employment and Social Security will be equipped with modern communication technologies.

Workers can file their complaints via telephone or internet-based communications including Messenger, Viber and Imo, according to officials of the Ministry. They can access the service at +97715970008.

Likewise, workers within Nepal can dial 1141 to receive the service.

Besides registering complaints, the workers can get information about government’s social security programme and activities of Department of Foreign Employment, Prime Minister’s Employment Programme and Foreign Employment Board from the call centre.

Earlier, the government had established a help desk at the Department to support Nepali migrant workers abroad. However, it was largely ineffective.
