Baitadi, October 4

Some dolomite rocks have been discovered in Baitadi district of western Nepal. Following that, the government has begun exploring the possibility of extracting the element to use in chemical fertilisers.

Earlier, the Department of Mines and Geology had discovered some dolomite rocks in Basaura, Dogadakedar rural municipality-7 of the district, informs Rastriya Samachar Samiti.

Meanwhile, Minister for Industry, Commerce and Supplies Lekh Raj Bhatta launched drilling towards this initiative on Saturday. On the occasion, the minister said the government would establish a chemical fertiliser plant if the mining in Baitadi would turn successful. “It will also give us employment opportunities,” he said.

Earlier, the department has sent a technical team on September 21 to explore the possibility.

Meanwhile, the rural municipality’s chairperson Chakra Karki hopes the discovery of dolomite would help the place develop itself financially and general employment opportunities.
