Kathmandu, January 19

The government has been apparently indecisive about appointing the new chairperson of Beema Samiti, Nepal’s Insurance Board, as there are too many people vying for one position.

The position is vacant for the past one week as incumbent Chiranjibi Chapagain completed his four-year team on January 13. In general, the chairperson would be appointed one month before the end of the incumbent’s term, the government is in a fix this time as there are many candidates.

Nepal Rastra Bank’s Deputy Governor Chinta Mani Siwakoti; Rabindra Ghimire and Ramesh Kumar Bhattarai, who were shortlisted for the position when Chapagain was appointed; NRB official Ram Sharan Kharel, also a brother-in-law of former finance minister Yuba Raj Khatiwada; former Nepal Stock Exchange chairperson Tanka Paneru; former NRB executive director Laxmi Prapanna Niraula, chartered accountants Krishna Prasad Acharya and Mahesh Guragain are the candidates.

Meanwhile, it has been learned that various functions of the board have been affected due to the absence of the chair.
