Govt begins preparations to restructure ministries

Kathmandu, March 2

Following the government’s decision to cut the number of ministries from 31 to 18, top bureaucrats in Kathmandu are preparing plans to allocate jurisdiction to the new ministries.

Dilliram Sharma, the spokesperson for the Office of the Prime Minister and Council of Ministers (OPMCM), says officials the restructuring will be completed soon. He said, “We are restructuring the ministries and coming up with a new work division plan.”
The plan, which is under the wraps, also deals with the management of personnel and the allocation of resources to various ministries.

“The number of employees would obviously decrease as there will be only 18 federal ministries. We will decide regarding the number of employees to be assigned to each ministry,” Sharma added.
