Kathmandu, December 17
The government has announced that it will facilitate free foreign employment for families of those injured and killed during the Gen Z movement who wish to work abroad.
The state will support families of the injured and the deceased from the Gen Z movement that took place on Bhadra 23 and 24 in accessing foreign employment. Those who prefer to work within the country will be provided with skills-based training.
The Ministry of Labour, Employment and Social Security is preparing to offer vocational and skills development training to help the injured and families of the deceased secure domestic employment. The training will be provided through the Vocational and Skill Development Training Academy. For those seeking foreign employment, arrangements will be made to send them abroad free of cost in coordination with manpower agencies, the ministry said.

Ministry spokesperson Pitambar Ghimire said skills-based training required for domestic employment will be provided to families of the injured and deceased, adding that preparatory work is already underway.
Newly appointed Labour Minister Rajendra Singh Bhandari has directed officials to proceed with providing skills training to link them with domestic employment, and also to ensure free arrangements for those wishing to go abroad. In line with the minister’s directive, the ministry has begun necessary groundwork.
Minister Bhandari has also held discussions with office-bearers of the Nepal Association of Foreign Employment Agencies, including its president Bhuwan Gurung, requesting coordination to send eligible individuals abroad free of charge. The association expressed its commitment to support the initiative.
The ministry is set to establish a Gen Z Employment Facilitation Mechanism, which, according to spokesperson Ghimire, will ensure dignified and safe domestic and foreign employment opportunities for families of the injured and deceased.
During the Gen Z movement, around 2,500 people were injured and 76 lost their lives. The government has recognised the movement as a people’s movement, and a 10-point agreement was reached between the government and Gen Z representatives. The agreement includes provisions for interim relief, compensation, free medical treatment and psychosocial counselling, free education, employment, social security, and meaningful memorialization for the families of martyrs and the injured, through consultation and coordination with those concerned.
