Kathmandu, March 9
The Election Commission of Nepal has completed the counting of nearly three-fourths of the total votes cast under the proportional representation system as of Monday morning.
Based on the vote count so far, the Rastriya Swatantra Party, Nepali Congress, CPN-UML, Nepal Communist Party and Rastriya Prajatantra Party, along with the Shram Sanskriti Party, have crossed the threshold. However, the threshold status of the Rastriya Prajatantra Party and the Shram Sanskriti Party remains uncertain.
This is because it is yet to be determined whether their vote share will remain stable or decline among the more than 25 lakh votes still left to be counted. If their proportion falls below three per cent in the remaining votes, they will fail to cross the threshold and will not be eligible to claim seats.
Out of nearly 75 lakh 40 thousand votes counted so far, the Rastriya Swatantra Party has secured 35 lakh 57 thousand votes, which is about 48.5 per cent. As its vote share has slightly declined compared to earlier trends, it is projected to secure 58 seats.
The Nepali Congress has received 12 lakh 33 thousand votes, which is about 16.5 per cent, and is expected to win 20 seats.
CPN-UML has secured 10 lakh 43 thousand votes, accounting for around 14 per cent, and is projected to obtain 16 seats.
The Nepal Communist Party has received 5 lakh 35 thousand votes, nearly seven per cent, and is expected to secure 8 seats.
The Rastriya Prajatantra Party has secured 2 lakh 57 thousand votes, slightly below 3.5 per cent, and is projected to win 4 seats.
The Shram Sanskriti Party has received 2 lakh 39 thousand votes, slightly above three per cent, and is also projected to secure 4 seats.
Based on the ratio of total and valid votes cast, parties securing around 3 lakh 16 thousand votes are expected to qualify for the proportional representation list by the time the final vote count is completed.
Except for the Rastriya Prajatantra Party and the Shram Sanskriti Party, all other parties have already crossed that threshold.
