Government decides to hold election to fill vacant National Assembly seat on Magh 11

Kathmandu, October 29

The government has decided to hold elections to fill vacant seats in the National Assembly on January 25, 2026 (Magh 11).

According to government spokesperson and Minister for Communication Jagadish Kharel, the decision was made during a Cabinet meeting held on Wednesday afternoon.

The six-year term of 19 members elected in 2020 will expire in early March. Among them, one member, Bamdev Gautam was nominated by the President, while elections will be held for the remaining 18 seats.

As per the National Assembly Member Election Act, elections must be conducted at least 35 days before the expiration of the members’ term. Since the tenure ends on March 4, 2026 (Falgun 20), the election must be held by January 25, 2026.
