Gorkha, January 31
A woman died after being hit by a tipper in Gorkha Bajaar of Gorkha district on Friday morning.
The 52-year-old Manamaya Gurung was hit by the vehicle (Ga 1 Kha 8027) belonging to Gorakhkali Crusher Industry when she was heading towards a local school to sell milk. The resident of Amalapani, Gorkha municipality-10 fell down onto the road in the accident, then the tipper rolled back to kill her, according to locals. Police later arrested the tipper driver.
Meanwhile, agitated locals vandalised and torched the tipper. They also vandalised five other tippers belonging to the crusher plant.
Staging a protest at the incident site, the locals have demanded that the crusher plant be closed down and the family of the victim provided with due compensation.
Local government officials say they are making efforts to make the plant operators and the protestors hold talks.
