Kathmandu, September 10

Four districts in Nepal, previously classified as ‘hilly’ will soon get ‘mountainous’ status, according to a draft bill passed by Parliament’s Development Committee on Sunday.

Ramechhap, Dhading, Gorkha and eastern Rukum, previously classified as ‘hill districts’ will now be included in the list of ‘mountainous districts’. The recommendation was made as these districts touched the Himalayas, the committee said.

Similarly, the Parasi area of the erstwhile Nawalparasi District has been included in the list of districts in the Terai and Nawalpur in inner Terai, said Rabindra Adhikari, chair of the committee.
