Gorkha: Bhattarai, Shrestha engage in blame game

L-R: Narayan Kaji Shrestha and Baburam Bhattarai

Gorkha, October 23

Two heavyweights contesting the upcoming House of Representatives elections from the same constituency in Gorkha district–Baburam Bhattarai of Naya Shakti Party Nepal and Narayan Kaji Shrestha of CPN-Maoist Centre–have blamed each other’s side for Bhattarai’s decision to leave the leftist alliance and partner with the Nepali Congress.

Organising a press conference in Gorkha district headquarters today, former Prime Minister Bhattarai said he decided to leave the alliance as the CPN-UML and the Maoist Centre eyed power than ideological transformation.

Bhattarai said his decision to form an alliance with the Nepali Congress was natural as his party had a ‘leftist democratic’ ideology.

At another similar event, Shrestha said Bhattarai exited the alliance due to his own trend of changing alliances.

Shrestha explained Bhattarai had been changing his partners frequently and the recent move was also its continuity.
