Situation tense in Gaushala after Durga Parsai supporters pelt stones at police

Kathmandu, November 27

Tensions escalated between the police and supporters of Durga Parsai in Gaushala on Monday.

Amidst the protest, which involved participants from various religious organisations, demonstrators resorted to vandalism and stone-pelting.

In response, the police initiated baton charging to control the situation.

It all started after police arrested controversial religious leader, Acharya Shriniwas. Shriniwas, clad in saffron clothing with a trident in hand, tried to block the road.

“We had to arrest him as he was trying to antagonise the crowd and create a nuisance,” said SSP Bhupendra Khatri.

Police are trying to get the situation under control.

On November 23, police had to use water cannons and tear gas to stop the Durga Prasai group from marching towards the government-specified no-protest zone.
