Some Members of Parliament said on Sunday Gaijatra should be a public holiday for the entire country, not just the Kathmandu Valley.
As per prevailing laws, Gaijatra is a public holiday for the valley only.
MPs pointed: Most of the districts, and not just the Kathmandu Valley, observe Gaijatra. So it should be a public holiday for the entire country. They demanded that the government declare Gaijatra a public holiday for the whole country, with effect from next year.
Lawmakers also called the government to protect Bajhang district headquarters Chainpur from the Seti River, which is causing erosion in Chainpur. They also urged it to protect 12 VDCs of Banke district from the Rapti River.
The lawmakers urged the government to end the syndicate system in the transport sector, curb road traffic accidents, violence against women, and viral fever, among others.
Ram Hari Khatidwada, Yagya Raj Sunuwar, Ram Hari Subedi, Janak Bahadur Budha, Chandra Devi Joshi, Keshav Prasad Badal, Keshari Gharti Magar, Prem Suwal, Kedar Prasad Sanjel, Kanta Bhattarai, Kalpana Sharma Joshi, Kamala Kumari, Dev Raj Bhar and Akhila Okheda, among others, addressed the House.
