Kavrepalanchok, October 30
Fugitive Khagendra Sunar, who was on the run, appeared before the Kavrepalanchok District Court on Thursday morning.
Court registrar Indira Karki said Sunar, accused of contempt of court and using abusive language against an advocate, appeared in court today. He is also facing charges related to electronic transactions. His statement is currently being recorded before the bench of Judge Nagendra Kumar Kalakheti, after which a detention hearing will be held.
Advocate Manisha Gautam had filed a complaint with the Cyber Bureau, accusing Sunar of posting abusive remarks about her on Facebook and verbally abusing her during a live video.
As Gautam’s permanent address is in Kavrepalanchok, the Bureau had referred the case to the District Police Office Kavre. During the investigation, Sunar went into hiding, and police filed a case in court on July 17.
The case, registered as a state criminal case (No. 82-C1-002) in July 2025, led to an arrest warrant being issued three days later, on July 20. The warrant was sent to the Dailekh District Police Office, his permanent residence.
According to registrar Karki, the arrest warrant was issued for an initial period of 7 days and later extended to 35 days.
As police were unable to arrest him within the given time, the case proceeded in court without detention. Since the case involves contempt of court, the court itself had issued an arrest warrant against Sunar. He finally appeared before the court on Thursday.
