Rastriya Swatantra Party (RSP) lawmaker Khagendra Sunar has accused middlemen of effectively taking over Nepal Police Headquarters, raising questions over procurement of police equipment.

Speaking at the House of Representatives’ Public Accounts Committee, Sunar asked whether the information the committee had sought from police authorities on procurement had been submitted.

“We had asked for information on police equipment procurement within 15 days. Has it been submitted? Meanwhile, the police have issued tenders worth hundreds of millions of rupees. Certain middlemen have taken over police headquarters,” Sunar said.

Sunar also stood by the questions he raised during the committee’s previous meeting, saying he was prepared to face legal action if anyone felt his remarks had damaged their reputation.

“I stand by the questions I raised and remain firm. If anyone feels their reputation has been harmed, they can go to court. I am ready to answer in the dock,” he said.

He also criticised the Nepal Police leadership for allegedly engaging in a confrontation with him during the committee meeting.

Sunar’s remarks during the previous committee meeting had drawn criticism over his language and conduct. Speaker DP Aryal had subsequently discussed the matter with the committee chair, secretary and Inspector General of Police.

The RSP had also instructed its lawmakers to maintain decorum in their presentations.
