The chargesheet failed by the Commission for the Investigation of Abuse of Authority against its own former commissioner Raj Narayan Pathak has received the topmost priority on the front pages of all major Nepali and English broadsheet dailies published from Kathmandu.

In the runup to the ambitious investment summit, major newspapers have highlighted preparations of the government and the private sector for the gala event. Likewise, there are a number of reports about the government crackdown on activities of the Netra Bikram Chand ‘Biplav’-led Maoist group.

Few other issues from political, sociocultural and economic spheres have been featured on the front pages on Wednesday.

CIAA suing its own official ‘a historic case’

Annapurna Post reports that the anti-corruption constitutional body’s decision to file a corruption case against its own former official is a historic case. It has been an example that people committing irregularities can get caught regardless of their authority, the lead of the news story reads.

In the lawsuit filed at the Special Court on Tuesday, the Commission has demanded that Pathak pay a fine of Rs 7.8 million and be kept behind bars for 11 years for his involvement in bribery.

Meanwhile, the Commission has launched investigations into some big corruption cases of the country, Nagarik reports in its lead story.

Police arrest more Biplav cadres

Republica reports that police arrested 20 cadres of Netra Bikram Chand ‘Biplav’-led Communist Party of Nepal cadres as the government recently banned the outfit’s activities. In past few weeks, total 192 cadres have been arrested from across the country, according to the report.

Meanwhile, The Kathmandu Post Comments that the group has shown little signs of joining talks despite the arrests.

Nepal Samacharpatra informs in a two column brief story that police personnel and cadres of the party exchanged fire in Ramaroshan Rural Municipality of Achham district of farwestern Nepal on Tuesday.

Kalimati-Teku bridge to be dismantled

Minister for Physical Infrastructure and Transport Raghubir Mahaseth has informed that the Bishnumati bridge connecting Teku and Kalimati of the capital is going to be dismantled as the bridge is not strong enough to bear the load of vehicles.

The notorious Pappu Construction was constructing the bridge and the contractor already received Rs 139 million, according to the lead story in Naya Patrika.

Family members of deceased civil servants to get full pension

The Himalayan Times reports in a two column story that the government is preparing to amend the Civil Service Rules, enabling families of civil servants who die while serving the government to claim the entire pension amount.

At present, the pension is awarded to government officials who retire at the age of 58 or those who have completed 20 years of service.

NRB officials don’t know who designed ‘beautiful’ banknotes

The Kathmandu Post reports in its anchor story for the day that officials of the country’s central bank do not have any idea about who designed current banknotes of the country and when though they claim that the designs are beautiful.

“We have no information on who designed the notes and why,” the report quotes Nepal Rastra Bank’s Currency Management Department’s executive director, “The Rastra Bank doesn’t have such records and I personally cannot say much about things that were in existence since I was a child.”

103 climbers of 14 expedition teams get climbing permit

Total 103 climbers representing 14 expedition teams have received permits to climb various mountains of the country this spring season, Abhiyan reports in its lead story.

The permit request window has not been closed yet, the report informs adding Rs 77.8 million has been collected from the climbers.

Rs 38.8 million revenue has been collected on Tuesday alone.
