Major Nepali and English broadsheet dailies published from Kathmandu on Thursday have given priority to a host of issues form political, sociocultural and economic spheres. Prime Minister KP Sharma Oli’s health condition continues to be one of the most discussed issues as he is still in a hospital undergoing treatment for chest infection and imbalanced sugar level among others. Newspapers have highlighted that he summoned three key ministers to the hospital and held a meeting.

Hospital likely to discharge PM on Friday

While almost all newspapers report that the Prime Minister’s health is gradually improving, a four column story in The Himalayan Times predicts that the Manmohan Cardiothoracic Vascular and Transplant Centre is likely to discharge the leader on Friday.

“We are going to keep the PM under observation till the antibiotics course is over. The PM is having regular meals,” the report quotes his personal physician Dr Divya Singh.

Meanwhile, PM Oli has expressed his interest in going to the airport to welcome President Bidya Devi Bhandari as she is returning home from a Qatar visit on Thursday, reports Naya Patrika in a snippet. The doctors, however, did not entertain his request.

Govt to sack province chiefs

The government is preparing to remove all seven province chiefs appointed by the previous Sher Bahadur Deuba-led government, claims The Kathmandu Post in a three column story. Likewise, some ambassadors appointed by the previous government will also be called back.

The report says the government has already prepared a roster of candidates for new ambassadorial appointments.

Subash Nirola allowed to file appeal

Nagarik and Republica report that the Supreme Court has allowed former chief executive officer of Nepal Tourism Board, Subash Nirola, to file an appeal against the apex court verdict, without serving the jail term.

A division bench of Chief Justice Om Prakash Mishra and Justice Purushottam Bhandari lets Nirola file the appeal against the decision to slap a seven year jail term on him without serving the sentence, but by depositing a security bond, according to the reports.

Govt to take back Osho Tapoban’s land

Accusing the commune of breaching conversation laws and constructing illegal infrastructures, the government is all set to take back the forest land it provided to Osho Tapoban in Nagarjun of Kathmandu, Kantipur reports in a box story.

Around 13 years ago, the government had allowed the organisation to use 37 ropani land of Nagarjun forest, which is a part of Shivapuri Nagarjun National Park, to use as a spiritual commune. However, the government has now charged that the Tapoban used the area for commercial purposes.

Parliament Secretariat demands additional budget for vehicles

The Federal Parliament Secretariat has submitted a proposal to the Ministry of Home Affairs, demanding the release of additional budget to purchase 23 new vehicles and 30 motorbikes for parliamentary officials and staff, Annapurna Post reports in its lead story for the day.

The Secretariat has demanded Rs 17.5 million for a single vehicle for National Assembly Chair Ganesh Prasad Timilsina, according to the report.

Supreme Court stays Gorkhapatra GM’s dismissal

The Supreme Court on Wednesday ordered the government not to implement its decision of removing Basanta Prakash Upadhyaya from the position of General Manager of Gorkhapatra Corporation, according to a snippet in The Himalayan Times.

A single bench of Justice Ishwar Prakash Khatiwada issued the stay order against the decision made on October 28.

PSC chief dissatisfied with halt at recruitment

Public Service Commission’s Chief Umesh Prasad Mainali has expressed his dissatisfaction over the government decision to halt the recruitment process of civil servants for next two months, according to the lead story in Gorkhapatra.

However, he said the constitutional body would cooperate with the government by halting the process till mid-December, warning it would not consider any change in the calendar after that.

Temporary staff protest govt move

The Himalayan Times lead story reports that dozens of temporary civil servants organised a demonstration in front of the Ministry of Federal Affairs and General Administration at Singhadarbar demanding the decision to sack 8,000 of them be withdrawn.

The staff also demanded automatic permanent status, additional perks and dignified exit for those laid off, according to the report.

Rs 3 million budget to control monkey menace in Parbat village

Mahashila Rural Municipality in Parbat district of Gandaki has allocated an annual budget of Rs 3 million to control possible entrance of monkeys in the village, reports Annapurna Post in its anchor story.

In the first three months of current fiscal year, the local government took 203 monkeys under control, according to the report. Total 20 personnel have been mobilised  in the campaign.
