Kathmandu, November 25

French Buddhist monk and writer  Matthieu Ricard has said that artificial intelligence is just a method of calculation, hence it cannot have human experiences such as compassion.

Speaking at an interaction programme on ‘future of compassion in the context of artificial intelligence and technology’ in Kathmandu on Sunday, the renowned writer said the AI could not be considered a being.

During the conversation, Ricard also admired the resilience of Nepali people as they get through everything in life, highlighting that a common platform, even before religion, is goodness and a good heart which is most needed for people to come together despite the challenges of technology.

The French Embassy in Kathmandu had hosted the event in partnership with BEED Knowledge Centre. French Ambassador in Kathmandu, François – Xavier Leger had also spoken at the event.
