Mahottari, May 17
An unidentified group beat up Budhanidevi Mahato, a former lawmaker from UCPN-Maoist, at Laxminiya VDC-8 of Mahottari district on Monday night.
Wielding sticks and countrymade weapons, a group of about 10 people came to her house last night and beat her mercilessly, Maoist leader Mahadev Yadav said.
The former lawmaker is said to be critical. She is undergoing treatment at Janakpur zonal hospital, Maoist leader Pikaru Paswan informed.
She can neither move nor speak. Quoting attending physicians, Paswan described Mahato’s condition as critical. The motive behind the attack is unclear. Mahottari district police office is said to be unaware of the attack.
