Kathmandu, June 5

The CPN-UML will decide on Sunday whether or not to give coPreviewntinuity to the KP Sharma Oli-led ruling coalition, apart from deciding the fate of the gentleman’s agreement that the party reached with the ruling coalition partner, then UCPN-Maoist, which has now transformed into the CPN-Maoist Centre.

CPN-UML leaders said this before Sunday’s meeting of the party standing committee, which is taking place at Prime Minister’s Official Residence in Baluwatar at 4 pm.

At the UML standing committee meeting held on Saturday, UML President and Prime Minister KP Sharma Oli had discussed ways to handle challenges in the implementation of the new constitution. PM Oli had stressed the need to join hands for the implementation of the constitution.

The government’s policies and programmes are pro-people, Saturday’s meeting had conclued, and appealed all political parties to come to an agreement for the implementation of the constitution.

While reaching a nine-point deal with then UCPN-Maoist, the UML had also reached a three-point gentleman’s deal with the same party. Former prime ministers Jhala Nath Khanal, Madhav Nepal and former Home Minister Bamdev Gautam are for implementing the deal, whereas the Oli camp says the Oli government should be given continuity till the next general elections, tentatively scheduled to take place in about one-and-a-half years.

UML leaders said Sunday evening’s standing committee meeting will sort out the matter.
