Kathmandu, March 8

The umbrella organisation of the Nepali private sector, Federation of Nepalese Chambers of Commerce and Industry, begun a discussion on whether to postpone its upcoming convention scheduled for mid-April.

The federation is considering whether to postpone the event as the government has urged everyone to defer public events and gatherings so as to save themselves from potential infection of the novel coronavirus.

The federation’s president Bhawani Rana has called a secretariat meeting for this Friday to discuss the options. The convention has been scheduled for April 10 and 11.

“Many programmes have been postponed. We cannot do the convention while the government is telling us not to do,” the federation’s senior vice-president Shekhar Golchha says, “Now, whatever the meeting will decide will be implemented.”
