Floods, landslides kill at least 4 in Sudurpaschim, Karnali; many places inundated

Kathmandu, October 19

At least four people have died in different incidents of floods and landslides in Sudurpaschim and Karnali provinces after incessant rainfall, on Monday and Tuesday.

Bishnu Awasthi (32), a resident of Bhatkanda, Ganyapadhura rural municipality-1 of the Dadeldhura district, died after being buried by a landslide, informs SSP Bikram Chand, the Sudurpaschim Provincial Police Office spokesperson. His house was buried by the landslide last night.

Meanwhile, two children have died after their house collapsed following incessant rainfall, in the Sayal rural municipality-6 of the Doti district in the province.

The victims have been identified as Sagar Kunjeda (14) and Aashish Kunjeda (11), sons of Bir Bahadur Kunjeda, informs the Provincial Police Office.

Likewise, in Ramni, Mahabai rural municipality-7 of the Kalikot district in Karnali, Smriti Adhikari (18) died in a similar house collapse incident, according to the federal Ministry of Home Affairs.

Several areas inundated

Officials in the districts of Sudurpaschim have reported several places in Bajhang, Kanchanpur and Kailali districts have been inundated due to flooded rivers.

Locals have called for immediate rescue and relief efforts.
