Fire rages near Kasthamandap, largely under control

Kathmandu, September 29

A fire that broke out near Kasthamandap in Kathmandu around 4:30 am this morning has not yet been fully brought under control.

According to DSP Purnima Chand of the Kathmandu District Police Office, the fire started at the clothing warehouse of Mohan Shah’s two-story house in Bhimsensthan, Ward 22 of Kathmandu Metropolitan City.

“The fire is about 90 per cent under control, with some parts still burning. Efforts to extinguish it are ongoing,” DSP Chand told Onlinekhabar.

Three houses and a temple have been affected by the blaze. The Nepal Army, along with nine fire engines and three water tankers from Kathmandu and Bhaktapur, are working to contain the fire.

Personnel from the Nepal Army, Armed Police Force, Nepal Police, and Kathmandu Metropolitan Police are all engaged in firefighting efforts.

Locals said the fire began in the clothing warehouse, but the exact cause has not yet been confirmed.
