Kasthamandap reconstruction finally begins

The reconstruction works of the historic Kasthamandap in the Hanumandhoka Darbar Square have started from Monday.

The monument was destroyed three years ago in the 2015 Gorkha Earthquake.

Meanwhile, Minister for Culture, Tourism and Civil Aviation Rabindra Adhikari reached the site on Monday morning to perform a Kshama Puja’ (forgiveness ritual) to mark the beginning of reconstruction works.

The Kathmandu Metropolitan City has taken up the responsibility to reconstruct the heritage site.

A committee has been formed under the leadership of Kathmandu Mayor Bidya Sundar Shakya to monitor the reconstruction activities.

According to Department of Archaeology, around Rs 190 million has been estimated to complete the project. The reconstruction work is likely to be complete within the next two years.
