Finance Minister Dr Swarnim Wagle has been tasked with coordinating the mobilisation of financial resources needed to rebuild infrastructure damaged by the Rasuwa floods. The decision was made at an emergency meeting of the Council of Ministers held today.
According to Foreign Minister Shishir Khanal, Minister Wagle has been assigned responsibility for coordinating the mobilisation of financial resources required for the immediate restoration and reconstruction of public structures and physical infrastructure damaged by the floods.
A massive flood in the Rasuwagadhi area this morning caused widespread damage.
After the floodwaters merged with the Bhotekoshi River, the Timure, Rasuwagadhi and Syafrubesi areas were affected. Reports indicate that the flood damaged settlements, markets, police offices, roads and infrastructure belonging to hydropower projects.
Foreign Minister Khanal provided the information while briefing Parliament on the incident.
The government has also decided to provide financial assistance to the families of those who died in the Rasuwa floods.
Foreign Minister Khanal said the Cabinet decided to “immediately provide financial assistance to the families of the deceased in accordance with prevailing law.”
The Cabinet also decided that the Ministry of Home Affairs would arrange food and accommodation for people who have lost their homes by relocating them to safe places.
It also decided to ensure the availability of drinking water and electricity and restore communication links in the affected areas.
