(Updated) Udayapur explosion injures seven; three including Congress candidate critical

Udayapur’s Chief District Officer Chandra Man Shrestha says an explosion in Udayapurgadhi of the district left seven injured this morning.

The injured include Nepali Congress candidate for House of Representatives elections from Udayapur-2, Narayan Bahadur Karki. He and two others have sustained critical injuries.

Four others have sustained minor injuries.

Explosion in Udayapur injures Nepali Congress candidate among four

Kathmandu, November 29

Four persons including a Nepali Congress candidate for House of Representatives elections have sustained injuries in an explosion in Udayapur district of eastern Nepal on Wednesday morning.

Congress candidate for the House polls from Udayapur-2, Narayan Bahadur Karki, and three of his cadres sustained injuries in the blast at Nepal Tower in Udayapurgadhi Municipality of the district, according to police.

Karki is a former lawmaker. Other injured have been identified as Rajan Karki, Dhanamaya Dhaulakoti and Nira Katuwal.

Chief District Officer Chandra Man Shrestha says the candidate will be airlifted to Kathmandu for further treatment.

Severity of injuries in others is not immediately known.

Attackers and their motive are yet to be ascertained. Police say they have launched an investigation.
