The world-renowned music competition Eurovision Song Contest is set to expand into Asia, with the first-ever Asian edition scheduled for 2026. Organised by the European Broadcasting Union since 1956, the contest will debut as “Eurovision Song Contest Asia 2026,” marking a new chapter for the globally celebrated live music show.
According to details released on Tuesday, the grand finale will take place on November 14, 2026, at the Ideal Live Arena in Bangkok. The event is expected to bring the widely popular competition to a new regional audience.
At least 10 countries, including Nepal, South Korea, Thailand, the Philippines, Vietnam, Malaysia, Cambodia, Laos, Bangladesh, and Bhutan, have confirmed participation, with more countries likely to join.
In Nepal, Himalayan Television has secured the official broadcasting rights and will organise national auditions to select the country’s representative. The move is expected to provide Nepali artists with a major international platform.
Executive Director Shyam Kandel said auditions will begin next week, with the national winner to be selected on September 19. The winner will travel to Bangkok to perform with a band at the finale.
Following the original Eurovision format, each country will present an original song that has not been previously released. The winner will be determined through a combined voting system of national juries and public votes.
With a history spanning over seven decades, Eurovision attracts millions of viewers annually. Organisers believe the Asian edition will showcase the region’s cultural diversity, creativity, and musical identity on a global stage.
The Asian version is expected to connect a market representing over 600 million people, with expanded audience engagement planned through digital platforms. Bangkok has been selected as the host city for its blend of tradition and modernity and its capacity to stage large-scale international events.
The project is envisioned as a long-term initiative, with annual editions expected to elevate Asia’s music industry to new heights.
