Kathmandu, June 28

The Election Commission has assured that results of elections held today will be published within next seven days anyhow.

It says results from most of local units will come out within next three days whereas those with a high number of voters will take seven days at most.

“We have directed the officials to form multiple counting groups and train staff for counting,” EC spokesperson Surya Prasad Sharma says.

Meanwhile, the constitutional body has also directed officials to maintain high security measures during the vote counting so as not to repeat any incident of tearing ballot papers as in Bharatpur during the first phase of local level elections.

“The Commission believes that cadres of political parties [who will represent the candidates during vote count] are disciplined enough,” he says.

Total 334 local units of provinces 1, 5 and 7 are holding voting today.

The Commission says the counting will begin in most of the places this evening itself after bringing the ballot boxes to the headquarters of respective local units.
