Election Commission launches multi-channel voter education programme for Falgun 21 polls

Kathmandu, February 10

The Election Commission conducts voter education programmes during every election period. This time as well, it has moved forward with policies aimed at making voter education more effective, according to the Commission’s Information Officer, Suman Ghimire.

He said, “The Commission runs various programmes to make voter education effective and to achieve its intended objectives.”

According to Ghimire, for the election scheduled on Falgun 21, the Election Commission has already approved a Special Voter Education Programme in line with Section 17 of the Election Education and Voter Education Directive 2078.

Under this programme, voter education will be delivered in two ways.

First: One volunteer has been deployed in each ward at all local levels. These volunteers will visit households to provide voter education, including guidance on how to vote and how to avoid invalid ballots. The Commission has termed this an interactive voter education programme, which will run from Falgun 3 to Falgun 17.

Second: Voter education will also be conducted through mass media and social media. The Commission plans to prepare and disseminate communication materials explaining how to vote.

Under this initiative, the Commission is also preparing to collaborate with well-known YouTubers, popular TikTok creators, artists and influential members of social organisations to help spread voter education content.
