Election Commission forms committee to probe Dolakha incident

Kathmandu, May 11

The Election Commission has formed a committee under the leadership of commissioner Sudheer Kumar Shah to probe into the death of a CPN-UML cadre in a clash between the UML and the CPN-Maoist Centre in Gauri Shankar Rural Municipality of Dolakha district on Tuesday.

Chief Election Commissioner Ayodhee Prasad Yadav said the team would go to the incident site for investigation.

This is the first time the Commission has assigned a commissioner to probe any violence in the run-up to local level elections.

The UML had drawn the attention of Commission to the incident and demanded an investigation.

Police so far have arrested eight Maoist cadres for probe.

Whereas the UML have accused the Maoist party of instigating violence, the CPN-MC has held the UML responsible.
