Election Commission calls for complaints against nominees, if any

Kathmandu, May 3

The Election Commission on Wednesday has called members of the public to file complaints, if any, against nominees who have filed candidacy for the first phase of local level elections on Tuesday.

Complaints can be filed from 10 am to 1 pm today.

Election laws have barred people convicted of murder, corruption and other crimes from contesting the elections. Likewise, those facing such charges currently are also barred from the polls.

Those suffering from mental disorder and currently holding positions in any public organisation shall also not file the candidacy.

The Commission will study complaints filed against the candidates and will remove them from the list if the complaints are verified, according to Commission’s spokesperson Surya Prasad Sharma.

Meanwhile, anyone wishing to withdraw the nominations can pull their names back till Thursday as the Commission will publish the final name list of candidates on Friday.
