Kathmandu, April 24

Chief Election Commissioner Ayodhee Prasad Yadav has clarified that the election code of conduct will not block the government from presenting the annual budget plan on May 29.

Speaking at a press conference at the Election Commission today, Yadav said the government could announce the budget on that day as it was fixed in the constitution even though the second phase of polls would be held after that.

The main opposition CPN-UML has been arguing that the code of conduct will bar the government from presenting the budget; therefore, the second-phase polls should be held before May 29.

Meanwhile, Yadav maintained that the government would not be able to announce any programme to influence the voters even though it could announce the budget.

Nevertheless, the Commission has suggested that the government can change the date of budget announcement if possible, according to Yadav.
