Dr Govinda KC started his 10th round of hunger strike on the premises of Institute of Medicine at Maharajgunj, on Sunday afternoon.
He has been waging a movement demanding reforms in the medical sector.
Dr KC, among others, has been pressing for the appointment of IOM under the Tribhuvan University on the basis of seniority.
He had given the Prachanda-led government until 2 pm, Sunday, to appoint the IOM dean. Dr KC started his fast-onto-death after the government appointed Dr Keshav Prasad Singh as IOM dean.
Dr KC has said that Dr Singh’s appointment as IOM dean is unacceptable. The situation at IOM had improved in the last 3-4 years due to the appointment of dean on seniority basis, he pointed, adding that political interests and mafia have again prevailed now.
He has been demanding the appointment of Dr Jagdishchandra Agrawal as IOM dean on the basis of seniority.
