Disadvantaged people to get free medical care at private hospitals

health-ministry

Kathmandu, December 16

From today, private hospitals throughout the country will offer 10 per cent reservation to the poor people, destitutes and people with disabilities. These people will get free treatment at these health facilities.

This arrangement is in keeping with a provision that the Ministry of Health introduced recently.

Poor people, senior citizens, people with disabilities and single women will be able to seek free treatment from government and non-government hospitals

With the introduction of this scheme, poor people, senior citizens, people with disabilities and single women will be able to seek free treatment from government and non-government hospitals. These people, though, need documentary evidence regarding their status.

The scheme covers medical counselling, bed charge, nursing charge, diagnostic charge and oxygen charge. It does not cover surgeries, though.

Those seeking free treatment should seek recommendation letters from village development committees, district development committees, municipalities and district public health offices concerned. For beneficiaries from the Kathmandu Valley, Bir Hospital can make recommendations.
