Kathmandu, December 17

Some schools in the Kathmandu valley have reported a diarrhoea outbreak at their institutions. Following the reports, the Kathmandu District Public Health Office has launched an investigation.

Dr Dipendra Raman Singh, the chief of the Department of Health Services, says the district office has already mobilised its personnel to look into the issue. “Now, it will take some time to find out what had happened.”

The Nepal Guardians Federation, an organisation of guardians, says seven schools in the valley including Euro School in Hattigaunda of Budhanilakantha, Euro Kids in Chhauni, Meridian School in Baluwatar, and Gyanbhumi School in Budhanilakantha have reported the outbreak. The organisation says many guardians have halted sending the kids to the schools as many students there have reported diarrhoea at the same time.

Meanwhile, Suprabhat Bhandari, the president of the Nepal Guardians Federation, says his organisation has informed the Ministry of Health of the issue as most of the schools were not regularly monitored by respective local governments.
