
Kathmandu, March 17
A program titled “Policy Dialogue for Promoting Social Harmony, Unity, and an Inclusive Society” begins on Tuesday. The event is being organised by Kathmandu Model College in collaboration with the Department of Conflict, Peace and Development Studies (CPDS) under Tribhuvan University, with support from UWS Nepal, Child Nepal, Hami Dajubhai, Swatantrata Abhiyan Nepal, and Yuvalaya. The program is being held on the occasion of World Social Work Day, according to the organisers.
The event is being organised around this year’s international theme of World Social Work Day: “Co-Building Hope and Harmony: A Harambee Call to Unite a Divided Society.”
According to Amitraj Shrestha, Head of the Department of Social Work, the program aims to bring together policymakers, social sector experts, civil society representatives, youth activists, and students.
The program will feature policy dialogues, experience sharing, and interactive discussions on various topics. Organisers said participants will discuss issues related to social harmony, inclusive development, social justice, and policy reform.
According to Surendra Subedi, the college principal, speakers at the event include mountaineer and photojournalist Purnima Shrestha, Deepak Kumar Shah, Pratish Shrestha, president of Injured Gen-Z Nepal, gender equality and social inclusion expert Dr Meena Paudel, and Ritu Bhatta Rai, chairperson of the National Action Coordination Group, among other experts and stakeholders.
Program chief Elis Raj Rajopadhyay expressed hope that such dialogue would strengthen policy initiatives aimed at promoting social harmony and inclusion. Dhruba Prasad Timilsena, Head of Internal Quality Assurance, said the program will discuss the challenges of social harmony, inclusivity, and social division, while exploring necessary policy initiatives for building an inclusive society. The ideas, suggestions, and conclusions generated from the program will be compiled into a policy brief and shared with relevant policymaking processes.
