KATHMANDU

Popular Nepali comedy duo Sitaram Kattel ‘Dhurmus’ and Kunjana Ghimire ‘Suntali’ have produced a new comedy series in the United States.

Titled Ma Ta Marchhu Ki Kya Ho, the series has been filmed in and around Raleigh, North Carolina, including Cary, Holly Springs, High Point and Greensboro. Kattel, who has directed the series, said it will be released weekly through the Dhurmus Suntali YouTube channel.

The series is scheduled to air every Friday at 8:15 pm Nepal time and 10:30 am local US time.

Kattel and Ghimire will appear as Dhurmus and Suntali in the series. Veteran comedian Mohan Mishra also features in a leading role, marking his return to acting after a long break. Mishra is known for his work in popular comedy programmes including Hos Prasad and Mr. Fantus.

The series also features Dinesh Karki, Shankar Raj Wagle, Sanyam Lamichhane, Monica Chaulagain Chuda Dhimal and Dharma Bharti. The couple’s daughter, Subihani Kattel, will make her acting debut as a child artist.

According to the production team, the series will use comedy and satire to portray the experiences of Nepalis living in the United States, including their struggles, opportunities, achievements, cultural and social challenges, family relationships and efforts to preserve Nepali identity.

The title is derived from one of Kattel’s previously popular dialogues and catchphrases.
