Deuba to consult key leaders before crucial Nepali Congress meeting

L-R: Ram Chandra Paudel and Sher Bahadur Deuba

Kathmandu, October 30

Ahead of the party’s central working committee meeting next week, the main opposition Nepali Congress president Sher Bahadur Deuba is preparing to consult key leaders of the party.

The party has called the CWC meeting for November 6, but before that, on Monday (November 2), Deuba is meeting officials and former officials of the party, according to the party’s joint general secretary Prakash Sharan Mahat.

During the meeting, Deuba will seek ways to concerns raised by the rival faction led by Ram Chandra Paudel.

For the past few months, Paudel and leaders close to him have been claiming that Deuba made various decisions regarding the formation of party departments and sister organisations going against the party statute.

The group believes Deuba is strengthening his control in the party in order to secure victory as the party president for the next term. The party is scheduled to elect the new leadership in February next year, but it is highly likely to get deferred due to various internal issues.

It is expected that the November 6 meeting will officially announce the postponement.
