Notwithstanding the controversy surfaced after Province 2 government introduced Provincial Police Act, the provincial government in Gandaki seems to be in a rush to introduce a similar law.

Provincial Minister for Internal Affairs and Law, Hari Bahadur Chuman, says the first draft has already been finalised. Arguing that peace and security of the province have been affected by the absence of police body, Chuman hints that it will follow suit of Province 2 in introducing the law before the formulation of new Federal Police Act.

The Minister, however, maintains that the government will wait for Kathmandu to prepare the federal law for some days, warning it will go ahead with its own plan if the central government delays.

“We have maintained our discipline till date,” he says, “I wish our patience would not break.”

In another context, Chuman says his government is also planning to introduce a local administration act.
