Kathmandu, April 20

Notorious gangster and Province 4 Assembly member Rajeev Gurung aka Deepak Manange has been sent to a jail in Kathmandu today.

Police had arrested Manange, a murder attempt convict, from Swayambhu of Kathmandu on Thursday evening.

Following the arrest, the Metropolitan Police Range took him to the District Court to execute the sentence today. The Court ordered that he be sent to the Dillibazaar Prison, informed DSP Mohan Thapa.

The Supreme Court in January this had upheld then Appellate Court’s verdict to sentence him to five years in prison for attempting the murder of another gangster Chakre Milan around 14 years ago.

Following the verdict, Manange had run away and avoided taking the oath of office as a provincial lawmaker.

Reports suggest that he fled to Sikkim after the verdict,  but he was believed to be in Kathmandu for the past two weeks.
