Chitwan, November 13

CPN-Maoist Centre Chairman Pushpa Kamal Dahal says the government is protecting those who made attacks on some candidates of his party in the run-up to provincial and federal parliamentary elections.

Recently, two central leaders of the party–Janardan Sharma and Barsha Man Pun–were attacked in their constituencies in Rukum East and Rolpa districts respectively. It has been suspected that cadres of Netra Bikram Chand ‘Biplav’-led CPN Maoist were involved in the incident.

On Sunday, police arrested some Biplav cadres from Rolpa in connection with the attack on Pun. But, Rolpa district president of Prime Minister Sher Bahadur Deuba’s Nepali Congress, Amar Singh Pun, issued a press statement demanding their release.

Amar Singh is the Minister of State for Irrigation in the Deuba Cabinet.

“After Amar Singh Pun issued a statement and told police to release them, everything has been clear,” Dahal said while speaking with journalists in Shivanagar of Chitwan today, “It seems local Congress cadres have formed an alliance with Biplav.”

Amar Singh and Barsha Man are vying for the House of Representatives berth from the single constituency of Rolpa district.

Meanwhile, Dahal urged PM Deuba to control such incidents warning they would be suicidal for the Congress if the party failed to pay attention now.
