Cyclone Fani to affect weather in central, eastern Nepal

Kathmandu, May 3

The Meteorological Forecasting Division says that the effects of Cyclone Fani will be seen in Nepal as well.

The cyclone has reportedly made a landfall on Odisha coast on Friday afternoon.

Officials at the MFD say that the cyclone will affect the regular pattern of weather conditions in some parts of the country.

“The cyclone is not likely to make its way to Nepal. However, lightning and showers will occur in some parts of eastern and central regions on Friday and Saturday,” read an official statement of the MFD.

The cyclone’s effect will also be seen around the Himalayas  where the weather is expected to get a bit extreme. MFD officials say that it is highly likely that the Himalayas will see heavy rainfall and snowfall.

Even western Nepal will see light rain showers for the next two days.  The weather is likely to get better by Sunday.

India Meteorological Department has classified Fani as an ‘extremely severe cyclonic storm,’ equivalent to Category 3 or 4 hurricane and said that it would land with sustained winds of more than 160 kilometres per hour (kmph) and gusts of up to 200 kmph.
